Testimonies of Healing

I have been a student of Christian...

From the August 1925 issue of The Christian Science Journal

I have been a student of Christian Science for about twenty years, and in that time have experienced many healings. Recently, while coming home on a street car one evening, I was suddenly attacked with very severe pains, apparently a case of poisoning. This was about half past six in the evening. I had a very important engagement for eight o'clock. Through the loving help of a practitioner, the trouble was quickly met, so that I was able to walk a number of blocks and fill the engagement, though the attack had been so severe for a time that I was unable to keep on my feet.

One of the things I most appreciate concerning Christian Science is its application to the problems of the children. My own childhood was a constant round of drugs and home remedies. Our children have never known anything of drugs, all sorts of healing having been brought about through the application of Christian Science. Croup, which claimed to be hereditary from both sides of the family, has been easily and quickly destroyed through the work of my wife and myself. A growth as large as an egg on the arm of one child disappeared after a few days' treatment.

One case, which proved the preventive power of Christian Science, occurred last winter. We had a single register furnace in our house, and occasionally the furnace would get red hot if the drafts were not shut off in time. The register or grating, which was set in the floor immediately above the furnace, also became extremely hot. On one occasion when this occurred, our youngest child, a girl then three years old, while running across the floor, slipped and fell on her side. One arm was beneath her and directly on the overheated register. I was sitting in the room reading and happened to glance up as she fell. I saw what seemingly was about to happen, and denied instantly the claim of burn. The flesh on her arm was seared and marked with the pattern of the register. She screamed for a moment; but I picked her up, and within less than five minutes she was comfortably asleep in my arms. A few days later, some one who noticed her arm, which we kept wrapped up for cleanliness, asked the child if it had not hurt her a great deal. She answered with a happy smile, "Not yet." I am confident that she felt no pain after the first moment, if at all. The mark of the burn stayed on her arm for several weeks, but finally disappeared, and there is no scar or other mark left.
