Testimonies of Healing

Christian Science was offered to...

From the June 1926 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Christian Science was offered to me about five years ago when I seemed in extremity, which proved indeed to be God's opportunity. For several years I had had occasional attacks of stomach trouble, which then became continuous for three years, with a physician in almost constant attendance. The physician declared my trouble to be intestinal fermentation. After an acute attack he told me he could do no more for me, and advised me to call in a specialist. I did so, and my condition improved slightly while I was under his care; but I was still kept on a rigid diet, and neuralgia, catarrh, rheumatism, frequent colds, nervousness, and irritability were added by this time.

I had been brought up by Christian parents in a so-called orthodox church and was familiar with the Bible, but had always been taught to rely on drugs for the healing of sickness. Such was my condition when a relative, who had been wonderfully healed by Christian Science, offered it to me. His trouble—nervousness— was considered to be mental. It therefore seemed different from mine, which was supposed to be entirely physical; and I was very doubtful about Christian Science being able to help me. I, however, attended some Wednesday evening testimony meetings, and was so encouraged by the testimonies that I decided to ask for help, as I seemed to have lost faith in medicine.

From my first treatment by a patient practitioner, I began to eat the same food the rest of the family ate; and one by one all the diseases dropped from me as the truth unfolded. I am very grateful for these physical healings; but most of all am I grateful for the spiritual uplift and enlightened understanding of God which Christian Science has brought me, showing Him to be a very present help. Words seem inadequate to express my gratitude to God, to Christ Jesus, and to our beloved Leader, whose purity and devotion made possible this revelation to our age; for all the activities of The Mother Church and the branch church of which I have the privilege of being a member; and to all those who have helped me onward in this journey from sense to Soul.—
