I have had so much help from the testimonies in The Christian Science Journal and Christian Science Sentinel that I should like to express my gratitude for Christian Science, hoping I may help some one as I have been helped. Being in the theatrical profession, I have found this Science to be a wonderful help, destroying discords so quickly that I have not had to lose any time from work.
One morning, after a journey on a sleeper, I awoke feeling so ill that it did not seem possible I could play my act that day, for it was mostly a singing and talking one. As it was quite early, after reaching the hotel I went to bed and read "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy until I fell asleep. When I was called to go to rehearsal it did not seem as though I could get up, go to the theater, re hearse music with the orchestra, and do many other things incidental to an opening performance in a vaudeville theater; but I knew that was my right work and nothing could keep me from doing it. I walked to the theater, a distance of about six blocks, declaring all the way that the minute I was then living in was all that I had to think about; that it was full of truth and love and harmony, and that I, as God's child, His image and likeness, could reflect only these qualities. I did not look ahead to the next hour's work, but clung to the moment I was then living in. By the time I reached the theater the most distressing of the symptoms had disappeared, so that I could talk without difficulty. All the morning as I went about my work, I held to the thought of the moment in which I was then living. When it was time to go on the stage I was so well I could do my work perfectly. I had no desire to eat, how ever, until about eleven o'clock that evening, after my third performance. Then, after eating a hearty meal, I went to bed, went to sleep, and awoke the next morning perfectly healed.
I am very grateful for this healing, which was very different from the experience I had with a similar attack before coming into Christian Science. Then I was in bed for two weeks, and had to wear glasses for three months, for it left me with weak eyes. I have also had quick healings of pneumonia and paralysis of the throat. The latter was healed instantly while I was working on the stage, by this same knowing that man is the reflection of God, and therefore perfect.
