In February, 1924, after six months of suffering which had become more and more severe, T was, to my great regret, obliged to give up my work as a clerk in Paris, where I went each day. The doctor whom I saw at this time, and in whom I had complete confidence, treated me for severe inflammation of the bladder, and prescribed several medicines, which brought no improvement. Every fortnight I returned to see him. His remedies, changed at each visit, were always without effect; and I grew thinner and thinner. In examining me very carefully one day, one doctor declared that there was a tumor in the left kidney and that this organ would have to be removed. I was sent to a large Paris hospital, where I suffered a great deal. After visiting another hospital and other surgeons without benefit, I decided to postpone surgical work.
Then my employer told me of the blessings of Christian Science. He lent me several copies of Le Héraut de Christian Science, which I read with great interest. From that moment I stopped taking medicines entirely, and ate without following any special diet. I procured the book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by our revered Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, and read it attentively, gaining great mental peace, which destroyed fear and brought back my confidence.
The divine light which came to me through Science and Health made me sincerely regret that I had not known Christian Science before. In order to hasten my recovery, which was taking place slowly, I decided to go to a practitioner to be treated. She received me with great kindness, and encouraged me to recognize the harmony, the goodness, and the spirituality of man as created by God in His image and likeness. When I left her I felt myself entirely transformed: my heart was joyful; I was animated with new life. From that moment I was healed. Absolute faith in the harmony of being had destroyed the erroneous claims of the material senses.
