I have been reading the Christian Science periodicals, and also the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy,—in fact all of her writings,—with a deep interest for about four years, and have become very grateful for the comfort and healing message they bring. I am prompted by the sense of love which Christian Science has instilled in me, to want to share what this wonderful revelation of Truth has done for me, that it may help some brethren somewhere.
Christian Science found me a complete wreck, materially speaking. I had used strong drink since childhood, and had reached the age of thirty-eight. I had come to the conclusion that death was the only thing that would ever separate me from it. I had a wife and small children, and was sad that they should suffer. Christian Science healed me of this habit completely and permanently, and also of the tobacco habit; and since then of many physical ailments. In fact, it has met my every need.
I am most grateful for purification of thought from envy, selfishness, resentment, and such like. I have learned that to demonstrate Christian Science one must be free from these, and that divine Love must be the liberator. I am grateful to be able to say that from its teachings I have become considerate of others, and love to strive to live in strict adherence to the Commandments. Permit me also to say that I can rejoice in tribulation; and I am grateful to God that He has chosen me as one to help defend this great Cause. My prayer is that suffering humanity shall realize good only, and that my work may attest my gratefulness to Mrs. Eddy.
