LIGHT

From the April 1927 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Light, and yet more light!
For this the prophets prayed,
For this the martyrs fell,
And gentle Jesus came.

Light, and yet more light!
Out of darkness seeking,
Out of woe and weeping,
Outward toward the morn,
Goes the pilgrim forward,
Moves he on his way;
Naught can now dissuade him,
Naught his foot can stay!

For this the prophets prayed,
For this the martyrs fell:
Light, and yet more light,
Flooding hearts of men,
Hearts of men inclining
Upward toward the light.

Light, and still more light!
Now the clouds are breaking,
Now the signs are pointing
To a glorious star.
On a far horizon
Nearing, ever nearing,
Waits the time appointed,
Waits the sure salvation.

Light, and still more light!
