I first became interested in Christian Science during the summer of 1914. Out of courtesy to a friend who was visiting us I attended a Wednesday evening testimony meeting. Among the many beautiful experiences in Science which the years have brought, the spiritual awakening of that first service stands out preeminently. I know now that when there I was being born again, as we are told of in the Scriptures.
Having graduated as a medical nurse and having practiced that profession for a number of years, I had much to learn from a more spiritual viewpoint. After studying Christian Science for ten years I again took up the work of nursing, caring for Christian Science patients in my own home. At the close of a period extending over four years, in the autumn of 1920, I had the privilege of serving as a nurse for a short time at the sanatorium of The Christian Science Benevolent Association at Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts. Those years of Christian Science nursing were rich in helpful lessons, and I look back upon them with many pleasant remembrances and a deep sense of gratitude.
Although Christian Science first attracted me as a beautiful religion, many healings have been experienced. Among them I might mention an instantaneous healing of acute neuritis, from which I had been suffering periodically for about ten years; a suppurating discharge from the tear duct of one eye, which a doctor had told me might develop into an abscess and require surgical attention, probably an operation; acute rheumatism, colds, and chapped hands. For the overcoming of fear, self-pity, self-justification, and resentment, which seemed to accompany these healings, I am indeed grateful. I am proving in a measure what Paul meant when he said, "Be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind."
