I wish to express my gratitude for all the blessings we have received through the study of Christian Science. We became interested in this Science during the summer of 1917 through the healing of our daughter, who was then fifteen years old. She had been in bed fourteen weeks with typhoid fever and appendicitis, and had been given up by three physicians, who said the only thing left was an operation. To that we would not consent, as we thought she was too weak.
A few days later a friend who called told us about Christian Science, and about people who had been healed through its treatment. Although she was not a Scientist herself, what this friend said sounded very good to us; so we decided to try it. We therefore arranged for treatments from a Christian Science practitioner, with the result that our daughter was healed in six weeks by absent treatment. We felt very grateful for this healing, but did not take up the study of Christian Science until about a year later, when a Christian Scientist came to visit her mother, who lived in the same house with us. She lent me her copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. When I started to read this book I felt I had found what I had been longing for all my life, namely, a better understanding of God and the Bible.
When I had read only a few chapters I took off glasses, which I had worn for twelve years for reading and sewing. I have never used them since, and my eyes are stronger now than ever before. I also took off arch supports, which I had to wear for broken arches. I have never had to wear them again. At the same time I threw out all the medicine we had in the house, and have never had any desire to use drugs of any kind since. I was also healed of constipation, which had troubled me for many years, and of rheumatism, lumbago, and nervous headaches. All of these troubles left me through reading Science and Health. I felt like a new person. When my husband saw the great change that had taken place in me, he also took up the study of Christian Science, although not for physical healing. He saw that it was a wonderful religion.
