It is with a deep sense of gratitude for what Christian Science has done for me that I want to tell others what it can also do for them. About five years ago I found myself in a very bad state of depression which I was unable to throw off. I had heard of Christian Science, and had read the Christian Science Sentinel, but had the notion that I would never become interested in it to any extent, as at that time I could not concentrate my thought on anything, because of the mental state in which I seemed to be.
One day, after walking around not knowing which way to turn for relief from thoughts of discouragement, fear, hatred, indifference, I found myself for the first time in a Christian Science practitioner's office. I had never heard of her, and did not know what she could do for me; but I can now see that God's hand led me, for "man's extremity is God's opportunity." The practitioner lovingly talked to me and gave me a treatment, and I was able to go back to my work that afternoon with a clearer mind than I had had for weeks. From that time on I took up the study of Christian Science as taught by Mrs. Eddy in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," and have been endeavoring to "hold thought steadfastly to the enduring, the good, and the true" (p. 261). I have had many wonderful proofs of what Christian Science can do, and am grateful for them; but above all I am grateful for overcoming the sense of depression, which brought with it so many discordant conditions, and which held me back socially and in the business world. I can truthfully say that I have been newborn of Spirit.
I am very grateful to God, to Mrs. Eddy, and to the practitioner who started me on the road to health and happiness by the help she so lovingly gave me at a time when evil beliefs were my companions instead of the spiritual thoughts which are God's heritage to His children.— —St. Louis, Missouri.
