From the May 1927 issue of The Christian Science Journal

It is with a happy heart that I offer up a prayer of thanksgiving for the light of Truth which, in the hour of greatest need, came into my life to banish darkness, to save and regenerate, to bless and heal. For more than a year it seemed a formidable battle. The giant Goliath of strong drink clad in the armor of sense-testimony was arrayed against a loving worker for God who, with the faith of a David, brought message after message of hope through the truth into my consciousness.

Many times during that period mortal mind tried to win me back to the old ways by whispering to me that the new life would be a lonely one, totally lacking in friendships and pleasures of every agreeable kind. But my Christian Science friend worked patiently on; and then one day the obscuring mists of sense lifted, and I caught a glimpse of the real man—and I knew that I was healed.

Oh, the freedom that came then I shall never forget! It was as though a great weight had been lifted from me. Doubt, uncertainty, and confusion were gone; fear of the future had melted away; again I could face the world with a smile of glad assurance, knowing that infinite Mind would surely lead me every step of the way.
