That Christian Science is the teaching of our Lord and Master has been proved to me numberless times. I was in bondage to a disease inherited through three generations. From the day of my birth, I was under the care of physicians, including three specialists. Their treatments consisted of so-called powerful medicines and included a major operation and minor operations on the head and throat, which caused destruction of the sense of smell. I was given no hope of healing, but the verdict was that the end would be a wheel chair and starvation, because of hardening of the jaws.
I had been going to the last specialist but a short time when I met a lady who told me of healings in Christian Science that she and her husband had experienced, assuring me that God did the healing. She asked if she might read to me from the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. I gladly consented, and when she left she asked if I would like some of the literature. I replied that I would be very grateful for it. It was two weeks before two copies of the Christian Science Sentinel came, and during that time I was looking for them with the greatest hunger. When the postman handed these papers to me, I left my work, went to my room, and eagerly read. In a short time, I laid off glasses which I had worn for fifteen years; constipation from which I had always suffered, sick headaches, nervousness, bad temper, catarrh of the head, and many other ailments faded away as I continued reading.
Later, help from a practitioner was given me for the supposedly inherited disease. The practitioner wrote me that I must not continue to connect myself with the fleshpots of Egypt; and that I had one Father, God, and none other. As my understanding of this truth grew clearer, the complete healing of the rheumatism was accomplished. I found also that my sense of smell was restored.
