I have been healed through reading "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and I want to acknowledge through these columns to the world the most wonderful instantaneous healing of which I have ever known.
In the year 1910 I was on my way to the Rocky Mountain canon in company with my son and son-in-law. While opening the way for the pack horses we came to a large tree standing on the bank of the stream which we had to cross four times going up and down. There was a low limb in the way of the horses, and I tried to break it loose with my hand. Since it looked old and dead, I thought it would break close to the tree, but it did not; instead, it broke close to my hand. The sharp edges of that broken limb came back with all the force that it took to break it off, and many particles passed into the ball of my eye, cutting it seriously. I fainted with pain. The boys came and found me lying on the ground. As soon as I regained consciousness "the scientific statement of being" (Science and Health, p. 468) ran through my thought, awakening me to the truth about man. and I arose without any material assistance and with no pain at all—and I could see as well as I ever did.
We had to cross this stream of water thirty feet wide, waist deep. My senses took no cognizance of the icecold water. Although we traveled eleven miles on our journey I saw nothing but the beauties of nature. When we arrived at the camp at four o'clock in the afternoon the boys seemed exhausted, having had nothing to eat in the meantime. They did not feel they could prepare the meal, so I made it ready myself. We retired for the night, and I slept most soundly, even though my bed was upon the rocks.
