Many are the benefits I have received since taking up the study of Christian Science more than twenty years ago. I should like especially to give out a word of hope and encouragement to those who may be struggling with what seems to be a stubborn form of error, whether of sin, sickness, sorrow, or lack.
I have witnessed and experienced quick and instantaneous healings through the application of Christian Science treatment. I wish, however, to relate one of my first healings, many years ago, of ulceration of the bowels and what physicians pronounced incurable cancer of the intestines. The healing seemed to take a long while. There were times when I was tempted to be discouraged because of the many months it took me to come out of an Egypt of sin and suffering. When I consider this experience and see the wonderful regeneration brought about, I can now realize the thoroughness of the healing that took place.
The fact that it took time to bring about the healing was not the fault of Christian Science, or of the practitioners who aided me so lovingly; but rather was it because there was much cleansing and purifying to be done in my thinking and living. Not only did the physical disease have to be eradicated, but many forms of sin, and much selfishness, self-will, and resentment, had to be removed before I could glimpse the glorious highway of God and be led to a useful and healthy life. Truth did accomplish the necessary purification, so that I was completely healed physically and sufficiently corrected morally to help others and myself to overcome many ills that the flesh seems heir to.
