Testimonies of Healing

I wish to express my gratitude to...

From the October 1928 issue of The Christian Science Journal

I wish to express my gratitude to God for having led me to take up the study of Christian Science; to Christ Jesus, the Way-shower; and to Mrs. Eddy for the life of self-sacrifice she lived in order to give to the world an explanation of the Bible in such a way that we all can learn the way to health and holiness.

It is now over eight years since I took up the study of Christian Science. Previous to this I had suffered for seventeen years with a serious form of rheumatism medically termed "rheumatoid arthritis," during which time I tried all materia medica could offer. I consulted specialists, tried hydropathic treatment for a period of six months, radiant heat baths, electric baths, sulphur baths, and all the patent medicines I could obtain, but I got only very temporary relief.

I was told of Christian Science by several friends, but as I was not a great reader I did not seem anxious to take up the study, for whenever I tried to read a book I always went to sleep. However, a friend who was visiting us again told me of Christian Science, and very kindly brought me some of the literature. I read it and thought it all very beautiful, and I was quite sure I had at last found the right thing to help me. It gave me a great desire for the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, which I soon borrowed from the library, until I could obtain one of my own, which was not long, for I felt I could not live without it.
