Testimonies of Healing

[Original testimony in German]

With a grateful heart I wish to...

From the October 1928 issue of The Christian Science Journal

With a grateful heart I wish to testify to all the blessings which God has let me experience in Christian Science. Those who knew me several years ago would not recognize me today: an unhappy individual burdened with pain has become a joyous person. As a young girl I suffered from rheumatism, which left me with valvular heart trouble; and other complaints followed. All kinds of medical remedies were applied; I went to several health resorts, but my condition remained hopeless. As we lost all our possessions during the war (we formerly lived in Russia), I was forced to earn a living. I became the beneficiary of a sick-fund and thought the sick-fund doctors would not pronounce me as sick as our family physician had done, but I was very much mistaken. I was sent away three times to recover, and later on the doctors found that my lungs were affected. When I had finished a course of treatment in the sanitarium for lung trouble, the doctor said as I left: "The seriousness of your condition you, as a nurse, know yourself. You must not do any physical work; that would mean death to you." My cup of bitterness was full; but God heard my supplication and pointed out the way to Christian Science.

As I was walking along the street, lost in sad thoughts, I wondered, as often before, if there were not a society where I could find what I needed. I heard an inner voice say clearly and plainly, Go and see! On looking up I saw a sign on a house on the opposite side of the street and went over quickly and read, "Christian Science." As it was Wednesday I went to the meeting the same evening, where a blessed, joyous feeling came over me. I was happy because I had found that for which my heart had been longing for years. When I had gained a right understanding, I worked for myself as we are taught in Christian Science; and after the first treatment indigestion and insomnia disappeared. I worked for two years; it was not easy for me, but I held fast to good. Now I am free, without any heart, lung, or nerve trouble. At every change of the weather I used to haw rheumatism in the joints; that too has vanished. My life is a prayer of gratitude. From childhood I was filled with a longing for the truth, and God answered my prayer.

I cannot thank God enough that He has privileged me to experience the blessings of Christian Science Through my reading and through the increasing understanding that the study of Christian Science brings, a new world has opened up for me. Now I know that no evil comes from God, that He only blesses, and so we need fear no sickness or evil. For the recognition that God is All—yes, all good—I am very grateful. I am also sincerely grateful for the beautiful Sunday services and Wednesday evening testimony meetings. I shall endeavor more and more to practice this wonderful teaching. I think with love and gratitude of our dear Leader, Mrs. Eddy, who through her writings has shown us the way of Life. For all the good that has come to me, may God be praised and glorified! —
