Testimonies of Healing

A written expression of my...

From the July 1928 issue of The Christian Science Journal

A written expression of my gratitude for all the blessings that have come to me and mine through the study of Christian Science, is but an iota of the good I must do in order to prove my sincerity. The wondrous light of Truth and Love that has come to me since taking up this study, about fifteen years ago, is beyond words to express.

I was greatly impressed with my first perusal of our textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and resolved to seek for church membership, realizing that a body of united workers could accomplish far more for a given purpose than could a single individual. Until this time I had thought such a course to be utter foolishness, as it had always seemed to me only added labor and loss of time and money to myself and my family. To-day the proofs I have that this was the right step to take are to be seen in my greater sense of peace and joy, in increased comfort, more time, and I might say more of everything one could rightly desire. My desire for church membership was granted, and I entered earnestly and whole-heartedly into the organized work. Some of the conditions I encountered were foreign to my concept of Christian Science as found in the study of our textbook, the Manual, and the Bible. A class student, however, encouraged me to continue in the work, and I did so, struggling blindly along for several years and becoming afflicted with a very irritating and annoying type of disease. I clung, however, to the understanding of God as good and omnipotent, but always unconsciously believing in the reality of evil, until I was enabled to take class instruction from a loyal teacher. From that time on my way has grown brighter each day; for I have learned in a degree to know the nothingness of evil and to detect the lie before it can manifest itself.

Each day I rejoice more and more "in the affluence of our God" (Science and Health, p. 140), and am having daily proof of His infinite love, manifested in the healing power of the Word as used in Christian Science. In the years of my study and application of this wonderful truth I have seen many diseases healed in my own family, including whooping cough, measles, influenza, abscess of the ear, sciatic rheumatism, coughs, colds, bladder and kidney trouble, as well as burns, bruises, sprained ankles, and broken bones; also other ills for which I have never sought a name. These healings have been made through the understanding of God and of man in His image and likeness as taught in Christian Science.
