FROM the time that Mrs. Eddy permanently founded her Church down to the present day there have been misguided persons who at different times, under one pretext or another, have publicly claimed to be her equal or her successor. Mrs. Eddy, familiar with this phase of the history of religious movements, safeguarded our Cause against such invasions, which, without exception, have failed to stand the test of time.
There has recently come under our notice a brief memorandum written by Mrs. Eddy, which in the fewest possible words disposes of the question of a successor. Our Leader in her own handwriting asks the question, "Who shall succeed Mrs. Eddy?" and answers it tersely, "Nobody. See S. & H."
