My first healing in Christian Science came while reading the Lesson-sermons to a lady. The healing was of what is known as granulated eyelids, a condition that had persisted from childhood.
During the war I was healed of a very painful condition of the ankles. The pain seemed almost unbearable, so I telephoned to a practitioner; and I shall never forget the spiritual uplift which came as a result of her loving explanation of what we really stand on—our understanding of God. The pain left immediately, and I went that evening to a public gathering, where I stood several hours without the slightest inconvenience. I was so grateful for this proof that healing can be instantaneous.
One summer I experienced a very wonderful healing of what would probably be called nervous prostration, and I am convinced that I should not be alive to-day were it not for Christian Science. It is so comforting to know that all our experiences are indeed "proofs of God's care" (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, by Mary Baker Eddy, p.66), and that through them all we can gain a better understanding of God and man. For the love and patience and faithfulness of the dear practitioner who helped me through this experience, I shall never cease to be grateful.
