Out of deep gratitude to God for all that Christian Science is bringing into my life, I feel that I must try to tell a little of what it has been to me. My father and mother began this study when I was about seven years of age. At that time my brother was healed in three weeks of typhoidpneumonia, and, later, my father was healed of epilepsy. So from that time on my home life was surrounded with Christian Science, its teachings and results. As there were only three families of Christian Scientists in the settlement at this time, we did not have Sunday school; and as I grew to womanhood I felt a handicap. As my own family came I felt a move should be made to have the children in a Christian Science Sunday School; and by the help of a loving practitioner we made a change to a place five hundred miles away. It was an harmonious and progressive move. On arriving there we had no business of any kind, but after a while work was offered to us. We did well, and when the last payment came due on our home we had money left over. I give God the praise for so divinely guiding us.
Another demonstration I am profoundly grateful for is the health of our eldest son. He is in the fourteenth year of his school life and has never been absent or tardy at school: this is due to the understanding of Christian Science. The nearest he came to being out of school was when measles appeared one Friday afternoon, but through Christian Science treatment all symptoms went and there was no fever. We knew it was right to obey the laws of the land, and we telephoned the health officer about his condition and healing to know if the boy should return to school. We also telephoned the superintendent of the school, who said that if there were no signs of measles he might return to school. So he went back the following Monday.
Three years ago this same boy was run over by a milk wagon. The wheels passed diagonally across the body with thirteen hundred pounds of weight. In three days he walked over a mile, and on the fifth day went to work. In this case I realized clearly the truth about the real man, made in the image and likeness of God, and that man is not fallen and sick but upright and Godlike.
