The light of Christian Science came into our home at a time when the shadows seemed very dark. Our little daughter had been very ill for many weeks with tuberculosis, and one morning the kindly physician who had been attending her told me that he could no longer give me any hope; that the end was very near, and there was nothing more he could do. That day we turned to Christian Science for help. We found a practitioner who lovingly took up the work, and at midnight the fever, which had seemed to run very high for many days, was gone. We were indeed grateful, and the next morning we had further proof of God's power to heal, when the little one was able to be propped up in bed and partake of the first solid food she had eaten in six weeks. The practitioner assured us that since God is All-in-all we had nothing to fear. She also told us that divine Mind governs. From that time the child ate normally, gained flesh rapidly, and in a few weeks was up and able to attend a Christian Science Sunday School. To-day she is a strong, capable woman, who, with the understanding of Truth taught in Christian Science, is able to help her fellow-men. She is a member of The Mother Church, and of a branch church, and is daily striving to use the wonderful truth Mrs. Eddy has revealed.
Christian Science has been our only physician for over eighteen years. We have had many healings, a number of which were instantaneous; and we are grateful for each error overcome, whether the healing be quick or slow. Two children have been born to us since coming to Science, and in both instances there was no pain or suffering. This meant a great deal to me, as when our three other children were born, under medical care, I had suffered untold agony and thought it necessary to stay in bed for about two weeks. In the last two cases, with the help of the understanding obtained through Christian Science, I was able to be up and about my household duties in less than a week.
We shall ever be grateful for the better understanding of God revealed to us by our dear Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, through "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" and her other writings. I am also grateful for church membership, for our periodicals, and for every loving channel for good which is helping me to see clearer each day that God is Love.—Portland, Oregon.
