When first I became interested in Christian Science there was quite a sense of discouragement and doubt as to my progress. However, I kept on studying and praying that I might have the full proof within myself of the healing power of the Christ, Truth, as shown us by our revered Leader, Mary Baker Eddy. I was willing to suffer if I could prove that Christian Science heals physical illness. In a very short time I was taken with ptomaine poisoning in a severe form, and after two hours of excruciating pain I was fast lapsing into unconsciousness. We were on a motor trip, in a strange town, and did not know at that time just how to go about finding a practitioner; but divine Love opened the way, and within ten minutes after my daughter talked with the loving practitioner I was free from any sense of pain or discomfiture.
In trying to bring to thought what I had to be most grateful for, I found that it was not so much the freedom from physical suffering as it was that during the two hours of intense agony I had not once thought of a doctor, nurse, or material remedy, for both my daughter and I in our extremity had turned to God, never doubting, to prove that neither discouragement nor the fear that I was not progressing in my study of the Christ, Truth, had power. It also proved to me that a previous healing, following a serious operation, was indeed brought about by the loving help of a dear friend who had voiced the truth to me. At the time, however, mortal mind had suggested that I should have become well anyway. To one who had been a graduate nurse for years, this proof of the law of divine government has meant much.
I am grateful that each day helps me to realize more fully the allness of God's law and its application. With reverence and appreciation for the Christ, Truth, as taught us by Mrs. Eddy, I know that "Love inspires, illumines, designates, and leads the way," as she tells us on page 454 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures."— Seattle, Washington.
