When our little daughter was two years old, she was taken ill with typhoid fever. Two doctors examined her and gave us not the slightest hope; in fact, they said she would probably live only a few hours. I can never be grateful enough that we knew of Christian Science. Kind friends brought a practitioner, and by the next morning the child was slightly better, and in less than a week she was out of danger. I was grateful for this healing but still very fearful, and the child's temperature continued to fluctuate. Mrs. Eddy says in the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 376), "Destroy fear, and you end fever." Reading that week's Lesson-Sermon in the Christian Science Quarterly, it came clearly to me that man, being God's image, always has been and always will be perfect, whatever the material senses may say. The fear went, and with it the fever; and although we had been warned of a long convalescence, the child was soon running about.
I have had many other healings, such as of pyorrhea, sties on the eyes, water on the knee; and coughs which before were severe and frequent are now rare and are quickly overcome. I am grateful to all who have helped us; grateful for the example of Christ Jesus, for the consecrated life of our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, and for the peace and harmony which come from the endeavor to follow her as she followed Christ.— Cliftonville, Margate, Kent, England.
