DISCERNMENT

From the April 1930 issue of The Christian Science Journal

To know Thee, Lord, as I am known of Thee,
Oh, wondrous thought! To see as Thou dost see!
This goal to reach, my prayer must ceaseless be.
Then teach me, Lord, to pray.

I know that I must watch my thought each day
Lest secret sins invade, and steal away
The precious hours in dreams. Then as I pray,
Lord, teach me how to watch.

If I would watch and pray with unselfed thought,
So that my prayer may heal, as Jesus taught,
Then must I love, else Thou art still unsought.
Oh, teach me, Lord, to love.

The pure in heart see God. Then as I learn
To love, to watch, to pray, oh, may I earn
The right to Thy new name, and so discern
Thy presence ever nigh.
