From my own experience I know that the difficulties which present themselves to us can be overcome by the right application of the law of God as given to us in the Bible and our textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy.
For eleven years I was a partial invalid, in bed more than half the time, and I underwent eight operations within five years. Now I am perfectly well. This change has taken place through the understanding of God and my relationship to Him, gained through the study and application of Christian Science. I was told by the last surgeon who operated on me that I could never be well or normal again, my nervous system having been shattered by many and long operations; that I could sleep but little without the use of opiates, and could eat only certain foods; that I could never have a natural movement of the bowels. I had been literally around the world in search of health, and had tried many kinds of cures, all to no avail. In five weeks, through the aid of a Christian Science practitioner, a condition pronounced incurable, which had existed for seven years, was entirely and permanently destroyed. During the fol lowing year, by continued study and application, such discordant conditions as insomnia, chronic indigestion, abdominal swelling, headaches, liver complaint, enlarged spleen, and pain, all disappeared. Since that time, fifteen years ago, I have been delivered from various discordant conditions, burns, cuts, sprains, rheumatism, and many other ills, as well as from resentment and irritation.
At one time I had the opportunity to prove that "the recuperative action of the system, when mentally sustained by Truth, goes on naturally" (Science and Health, p. 447). I leaned on a door, while in an automobile, and it flew open, throwing me, my full weight on my face, on to a cobblestone street. I was picked up in a dazed condition and carried to my home. When I became conscious, words of Truth were being spoken to me by a practitioner who was with me at the time, and my sister was reading aloud from our textbook; so the first thing I became conscious of was the word of God. The sense of pain, which was agonizing, disappeared in about half an hour, never to return; but my nose was crushed and pushed to one side, cheeks, chin, and mouth cut, and two teeth knocked loose. In two weeks my face was healed and the teeth firmly in place. There was never any fear of disfigurement, as my family and I felt sure that God's law of healing was able to heal perfectly; and so it proved.
