Testimonies of Healing

I first came in contact with...

From the June 1930 issue of The Christian Science Journal

I first came in contact with Christian Science about twenty-six years ago through some new acquaintances, who took me to the midweek testimony meeting in a Christian Science church. A statement made by one of the speakers stayed with me. It was the quotation, "Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free."

The next Sunday morning found me at the Christian Science church, and in the evening I went back to hear the Lesson-Sermon again. I then bought the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and commenced to study, for I felt there was something substantial about this teaching that satisfied me. I had been a regular attendant at one of the orthodox churches from my youth up, but the religious teaching there had failed to satisfy me. Since that time I have relied solely upon the teachings of Science and Health as a guide to my footsteps.

One marked case of healing which I should like to relate took place a few years ago. In working on an engine, I was taking a very large belt to pieces when the knife I was using slipped, running into the forearm about two inches. I was immediately rushed off to a hospital, and great fear was manifested by those around as some foreign substance had been carried by the knife and serious results were anticipated by the doctor. I was allowed to go home, but was almost immediately ordered back to the hospital, as the doctor claimed that a very serious condition had developed and he feared amputation would be necessary. At this juncture a Christian Science practitioner was called and asked to take the case. Treatment was begun at once, with the result that the next morning there was such a marked improvement that the physician was satisfied the threatened amputation would not be necessary, since the alarming symptoms had disappeared. Christian Science treatment was continued, and on Friday of the same week I was allowed to go home. Complete healing quickly followed and there has never been the slightest ill effect from the experience.
