Testimonies of Healing

As an expression of gratitude to...

From the December 1931 issue of The Christian Science Journal

As an expression of gratitude to God, to whom all honor is due, I wish to testify to the following healing which took place in my home, giving me a clear proof of the healing power of Christian Science. Our little son, aged six, came home from school and complained of being sick. I gave him a Christian Science treatment and he appeared to be all right again. The next day, however, he had no inclination to go to school and remained at home. During the day he became ill once more, and that night alarming symptoms developed. I was requested by my wife, who is not interested in Christian Science, to call in a doctor to diagnose the case. This was done shortly after ten o'clock. The doctor reported that the little chap had a high temperature and was suffering from a severe attack of bronchopneumonia. He informed my wife that it was a serious case and would be a protracted one. As it was too late that night to procure certain medicaments which he prescribed, the doctor promised to call early the next day, when he would issue instructions as to what should be done.

On the doctor's departure, I told my wife I intended to proceed with Christian Science treatment; and in order to allay her fear I requested her to try to realize that in reality, as the child of God, the image and likeness of divine Love, the boy could not be sick. This she promised to do, after I had explained that it would assist me. Treatment was then begun and continued until about five o'clock the next morning, when I realized that the healing had been accomplished, and the truth had once more destroyed the apparent power of error.

Having been delayed at the local hospital, the doctor did not arrive until quarter past one in the afternoon. He was very much surprised to see the child sitting up in bed. After taking the boy's temmperature twice, he found the little fellow normal. An examination also revealed that with the exception of a little loose mucus, which would be coughed up, all other signs of broncho-pneumonia had disappeared. He was at a loss to explain what had happened. I then told him what had been done, and although he could not understand the healing, he could not understand the healing, the fact remains that he said it was not necessary to call again unless sent for. Two days after this incident, the doctor visited the house and asked to be allowed to examine the little boy again. This he did, and stated that he was quite satisfied. Three days after this, the child returned to school, and I called upon the doctor. After paying him his fee, I asked him to give me a certificate in regard to his diagnosis, and also with reference to his examination the following day. This he did, at the same time stating that he was only recording the truth. This original certificate has been forwarded to The Christian Science Publishing Society.
