Testimonies of Healing

I wish to express my gratitude...

From the February 1931 issue of The Christian Science Journal

I wish to express my gratitude for the many blessings that have come to me through the study and application of Christian Science. Some years ago the pastor of an orthodox church in Chicago made the statement in one of the Sunday morning sermons that "God is not a great superhuman being sitting on a throne up in heaven; God is Love, Life." At that time it seemed to me such teaching would destroy all belief in God. If God was not up in heaven, then there was no God. Little did I realize that in a few years, through the study of Christian Science, I should obtain an understanding of the truth of that statement which would bring into my life more of peace, joy, and contentment than I had ever known before. When one comes to know the truth about God, to know of His infinite love and wisdom, His ever-presence and protecting care, there comes into one's consciousness a sense of security, joy, and peace that is beyond words to describe.

It is now almost sixteen years since I took up the study of Christian Science, and during that time there have been many manifestations of God's love and protection. For a period of some four or five years previous to this time I had been under the care of four physicians and had not received any benefit, but grew worse all the time. I was told that there was nothing more that medicine could do for me, and on the recommendation of a friend I called at the office of a Christian Science practitioner. After about three quarters of an hour with this practitioner I left her office completely healed. I have had many healings since that time, healings of broken arches, which took over a year to heal; of infection from poison ivy, which was healed in one day; of a partial stroke, when the right side, both hand and foot, was useless. This last-mentioned trouble was healed in two days, and there has never been any indication of a return of that difficulty.

The healing for which I am most grateful is the gradual overcoming of worry and fear. The knowledge that God is an ever present help, and that His protecting love is guiding us in all the walks of life, destroys all sense of doubt and discord, of lack or limitation. I am most grateful to our Father-Mother God for this sense of peace and contentment; grateful to Mrs. Eddy for having revealed to us this wonderful truth, to Christ Jesus, the Way shower, and to all those who have so lovingly helped me along the way. I am also grateful for class instruction under a loyal teacher, and for the privilege of teaching in the Sunday school. —
