Testimonies of Healing

My first glimpse of the healing...

From the February 1931 issue of The Christian Science Journal

My first glimpse of the healing power of Christian Science came to me when I was healed of constipation, which I had had since childhood. I doctored many years for this condition, taking medicine every day, until it failed even to relieve. The healing of this trouble was brought about by one treatment from a loving Christian Science practitioner. The practitioner asked me if I would rely wholly upon God. This I was glad to do, and the healing was wonderful and permanent. I was very happy over the demonstration, because I knew that if Christian Science could correct this condition it surely could correct every other inharmony. At that time I had been having boils for over two years. These disappeared at the same time, although I had said nothing to the practitioner about them.

For years I had been having serious trouble with my eyes. Both were weak, and one of them had had ulcers, which left a scar. A specialist told me that eventually one eye would have to do the work of both, and that I would need to have my glasses changed every year for stronger lenses. Shortly after the healing referred to above I heard a man testify at a Wednesday evening meeting to the overcoming of an eye condition similar to mine. He said that he had read "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy all through one night, and that in the morning he had put his glasses away and had not needed them since.

I left the meeting resolved to try to work the next day without my glasses. I did so, and was surprised when at the end of the day I realized that I had not missed them. I use my eyes for close work, my position being that of a bookkeeper. I study the Lesson-Sermon from the Christian Science Quarterly and do all my reading at night, a thing I had not dared to do for years as the doctor had told me not to do any reading or close work at night. An article on "Perception" in The Christian Science Journal for June, 1926, helped me very much. The writer said, "Not good eyes, but good thoughts, are the medium of true perception."
