At the time I came into Christian Science I had been suffering for over seven years and had been to the hospital four times, but had received no relief. At times my suffering was so great that a sedative would have to be administered, and then only temporary relief would be experienced. Finally, I felt that death would be the only way out. I took no interest in anything or anybody; in fact, I hated everyone and could not see good in anything.
A very dear friend suggested that I go, when I could, to see a Christian Science practitioner whose office was in the same building in which I worked, but I said that I did not think anything could help me. However, a few days later I went in and talked with this practitioner, who told me what God could do and said that He did not make anybody suffer. She gave me a treatment that day. After that first visit I felt as though restored to life; when I went out I felt much better. I slept soundly that night for the first time in years. My healing was instantaneous. Love and joy took the place of hate and indifference, and I was healed of the suffering of many years' standing. About two weeks later a beautiful copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy was presented to me by a friend, and since that time it has been my daily companion. It is indeed the "key" to the Scriptures. The Bible, which meant nothing to me before, means everything now. It is now four years since my healing, and for the last three years I have been going to night school and learning how to lead a more useful life. Innumerable discordant conditions have been overcome through the application of this wonderful truth.
