Testimonies of Healing

With a sincere desire to help some...

From the March 1931 issue of The Christian Science Journal

With a sincere desire to help some earnest seeker for Truth, I should like to tell of some of the innumerable blessings that my family and I have experienced through Christian Science.

Nearly seven years ago my father, while standing in the front yard talking with a neighbor, was struck by a stray bullet which came from across the street. It pierced the top of the shoe on his left foot, and traveled through the bottom of the foot, lodging about an inch and a half from the end of the heel. As soon as the neighbor discovered what had occurred, he wanted to telephone for an ambulance to take my father to a hospital and have the bullet removed. My father objected to this, however, and told the gentleman that he was interested in Christian Science and would telephone to a practitioner for help. The practitioner lovingly worked for him, and we relied entirely on God. The bullet worked out exactly three weeks after it entered the foot. This was certainly a proof of what reliance on Truth could do.

At one time, when I was a child, I was stricken with typhoid fever. One night, when I was very ill, a practitioner was called and remained with me through the night, as my mother had become fearful. The practitioner worked for my mother as much as she did for me, and asked her if she would not leave me with God. She persuaded her to retire, and the next morning my mother admitted to the practitioner that she had slept soundly that night, and also that she had found me healed. Thus it was proved that when fear was conquered the healing took place.

Two years ago last summer, while on my vacation, it was necessary for me to climb around the edge of a rocky precipice. As I stepped from one rock to another my foot slipped and I fell down to the bottom of the precipice, which was probably eight or nine feet below and covered with small stones and pebbles. I realized I was falling and said under my breath, "God is with me," and I knew that He was taking care of me. Among the members in the party was a young lady who was employed by the same firm of which I was an employee. She and a gentleman who saw me fall climbed down the precipice, expecting to find me with broken bones. Instead, I was able to get up unassisted and stand laughing when they came to my rescue. One arm and one leg were bruised slightly, but they healed very quickly. When my friend returned to the office, she told the other employees of my experience, and said it was nothing short of a miracle that I was not severely hurt. Of course, I knew that it was divinely natural, and that through trust in God I had been protected.

I have had many other healings and demonstrations, among them the overcoming of pneumonia, colds, and other discordant conditions, sometimes through the help of kind and faithful practitioners, and sometimes through my own efforts; I have always found Christian Science unfailing when earnestly applied.

My parents have been interested in Christian Science since I was a small child, and I am grateful for the privilege of attending the Christian Science Sunday School. I am thankful for membership in The Mother Church and in a branch church, for being able to teach in the Sunday school, for serving in various ways, and for all the activities of the Christian Science movement.

My gratitude to Mrs. Eddy, our beloved Leader, is unbounded, and I can show it only by becoming more worthy of the name "Christian Scientist."—

I wish to verify the above-mentioned testimony of my daughter in regard to my foot. This was a most beautiful proof of mental surgery in Christian Science.—
