I am unspeakably grateful for the practical truths revealed through Christian Science. My family had relied completely on this Science for about ten years, and our only child had always attended the Sunday school; but while I considered Christian Science a wonderful religion, I felt it advantageous to have medical attention for this child and myself when an occasion presented itself.
One day the child became infected in the worst form known to medical science. It was manifested over the entire body, and there was a large place on the back of the hand where the bone was plainly visible. After she had had continuous medical attention and grown worse rapidly, I admitted defeat. We then went to a Christian Science practitioner, who lovingly consented to take the case under one condition—that I, as the mother, would refrain from using material means. This I readily agreed to do. This was on a Thursday afternoon; on the following Tuesday morning this child returned to school with a doctor's signed certificate. New flesh had entirely covered the bone, and all evidence of infection, which had so completely covered the body, had disappeared.
Words fail me to express enough gratitude for this experience—not alone for the healing, since I learned the biggest lesson of my life. I had come face to face with the fact that I must exclude self—self-will, self-righteousness, and the great desire to humanly outline. I had come to the realization that I must relinquish all claim as the human parent and return this child to its real creator, our Father-Mother God.
