Testimonies of Healing

Our blessed Master's loving invitation...

From the March 1932 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Our blessed Master's loving invitation, "Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest," we had sincerely tried to accept for many weary, anxious years, but without finding this comfort. When the light of Truth, as taught in the textbook of Christian Science, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, illumined the Master's words, we clearly saw the Christ, Truth, as present and available to meet our every need, with the result that our burdens and worries disappeared, and a calm, sweet sense of peace took their place. For over seventeen years this truth has guided and guarded us, and healed every discordant condition with which mortal mind has confronted us. The physical healings, for which we are exceedingly grateful, have been too numerous to mention. The healing of a chronic condition, supposedly inherited, was my first experience of the power of God's Word to heal. The healing was accomplished in one treatment by a loving practitioner, and it has been permanent.

I should like to voice my gratitude for just one of the many proofs we have had of God's safeguarding of His children. A member of the family had to drive to a neighboring city on business. When he did not return home for lunch, as had been planned, at first a thought of fear came to me; but instantly I gave thanks that our loving Father-Mother God, who is always present to protect His ideas, had the power to control them, wherever they were. I noticed that it was just twelve-thirty, and then began to sing these words of one of Mrs. Eddy's hymns (Miscellaneous Writings, p. 389; Poems, p. 4), "O gentle presence, peace and joy and power," for often they have lifted my thought from fear. About three o'clock the dear one was brought home by a friend, who said his escape from death was a miracle, as he had been struck by a locomotive and knocked unconscious. Upon regaining consciousness an hour later in the first-aid room of the factory which he had just left, he found that a small bone of the leg was broken and a deep wound made above the knee; his nose was also broken. Since he desired to be taken home instead of to a hospital, as those around him wished, a friend offered to drive him home; and the twenty-mile ride was taken in his own car.

On inquiring of the friend at what time the accident occurred, I was told that it was twelve-thirty. We learned later that the report came to our city about two that he had been killed; but Love protected us from hearing the lie. Love was the physician, and no infection or fever interfered, a perfect healing taking place in a short time. During this time many valuable lessons were learned by all in the home, proving the truth of Mrs. Eddy's statement in "Miscellaneous Writings" (p. 267), "Our worst enemies are the best friends to our growth." We were passing through a time of general business depression, and our business seemed to be in a precarious condition. Because of a sincere desire to know of God and His loving providence, and great gratitude for His protection and love, our thoughts were filled with hope, trust, and willingness to let His will be done. In a short time new business opened up and the crisis was passed.
