"BRING ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the Lord of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it." A ringing challenge and loving command are definitely set forth in this Bible passage, and an equally definite promise of reward. On page 595 of the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," Mary Baker Eddy gives the spiritual interpretation of "tithe" as "contribution; tenth part; homage; gratitude." Also, on page 587, we find the definition of "heaven" in part as "harmony; the reign of Spirit, government by divine Principle."
These passages, studied together, reveal unlimited treasures to the earnest seeker. Though an individual may not be consciously aware of it, his thought is constantly active. Should not this fact, when recognized, be sufficient to rouse him into choosing the companions of his mental household, remembering that, whether spoken or unspoken, his thoughts are to be accounted for?
The recognition of God as the only cause and His creation as the only effect unfolds more understanding of how to apply the truth gleaned in the daily study of the Bible, together with Science and Health and our Leader's other writings. Truth is already established and only waits to be spiritually apprehended and applied in the displacing of the belief in evil, by recognizing no power other than God, as expressly enjoined in the First Commandment, "Thou shalt have no other gods before me."
