For about twelve years I have been a student of Christian Science, but I have benefited by its ministrations off and on all my life. One of my earliest recollections is of being healed of a fever. While my father was talking on the telephone to a Christian Science practitioner, the fever abated. Later he taught me "the scientific statement of being" from "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy (p. 468). I remember distinctly repeating this many times, and it resulted in a healing once when I felt very sick, although I seemed not to understand the words.
My father passed on when I was fifteen, and Christian Science was temporarily lost sight of. However, after suffering for a long time with attacks of tonsillitis, which occurred many times a year with great severity, I was finally inspired to turn to Christian Science for help. At once, under Christian Science treatment, the attacks grew fewer and farther apart, and where previously they had endured for about three weeks at a time, leaving me weak and run down, Christian Science treatment freed me in from one to three days and sometimes instantaneously, leaving me a little stronger each time. Fear of this disease was slow to yield, but when it did, through a clearer understanding of the real man and his immunity from disease, then my healing was permanent, and a great burden was lifted from my life.
Very early in my study of Christian Science, and while far away from home and the practitioner whom I knew, I suffered a very severe attack of scarlet fever. Absent treatment was begun, and in four days I was up and dressed. Due to the very anxious thought surrounding me, I was quarantined for six weeks, but I was up and well after the first four days. No bad after effects were experienced.
