When a member of my family...

From the January 1934 issue of The Christian Science Journal

When a member of my family wrote me from Saxony about Christian Science in 1921, it was the first time I had ever heard of this religion. I was at once very much interested in it and made use of the address given me to learn more about it. The librarian of the Christian Science Reading Room lovingly enlightened me, and the textbook was also lent to me. For years I had suffered from a double rupture which occurred during the performance of my duties as a railroad man. It was often very painful and hindered me in getting about. In addition I suffered from rheumatism in the shoulders and arms. As a result of diligent study of the textbooks my faith grew that I too could be healed through the power of the revealed truth. Well do I remember the day when I called on a Christian Science practitioner for the first time, and she asked me whether I could reconcile with the love, omnipresence, and omnipotence of the heavenly Father the belief that He would let one of His children come to harm in the loyal performance of his duty. Surprised, in sudden recognition of the truth, I replied, "No! That must then be an error!" That false belief vanished forthwith, and through the treatment that followed I was healed of my whole difficulty in about six weeks.

My great gratitude for this wonderful healing impelled me to become a member of the local Christian Science Society and of The Mother Church. I am nearly eighty years of age and am hale and hearty. I am especially grateful also to the dear practitioner who gave me such loving care. —
