How wise Elijah was at Zarephath!
No self-assertion made him cast aside
The widow's meager store of humble food—
He let her see it shared and multiplied.
Elisha stretched compassionate hands to one
Burdened with debts she saw no means to pay;
Increased the oil already in her house,
Till freed and grateful she could go her way.
Likewise our Master, though he could have spread
A banquet such as kings had vainly sought,
Fed the five thousand in the wilderness
With the few loaves and fishes one had brought.
Oh, may we be as humbly wise today,
Nor scorn the learner's present sense of good,
But multiply it till, redeemed, he sees
God's love expressed in man's true brotherhood.
