"Neither organic inaction nor overaction is beyond God's control; and man will be found normal and natural to changed mortal thought, and therefore more harmonious in his manifestations than he was in the prior states which human belief created and sanctioned" (Science and Health, p. 125). This statement describes my first healing in Christian Science, over five years ago, although at that time I knew nothing of this Science and had to rely entirely on a practitioner, who willingly accepted the case and handled it successfully and quickly.
I had just passed my twentieth birthday and was recovering from my ninth operation, when the condition which had caused the need of the operation returned. This condition was called varicocele. Two arteries had been removed from my body to relieve an intense pain that kept me from being able to walk. When the condition returned, I went to a different doctor, who told me that I should never have had the operation, but since I had, I should have to be operated on again and have two more arteries removed. This would relieve the pain, but whether I had the operation or not, I should be a total, helpless invalid in six months.
My mother then called a Christian Science practitioner whom we had known for several years. After talking to me, she assured me that since all of God's children reflect God's perfection I would be healed. The healing required much less than a week, and was complete. Within three months I was playing basketball. In all the years since then I have never had a recurrence of the condition.
