When Christian Science came to me I was living continually in a state of despair, and was constantly depressed by fears of various kinds. My first healing took place soon after I became interested in this wonderful truth. I was lighting a spirit stove in the small office where I was employed, when suddenly it blew up in my face. A student of Christian Science, who was in the room at the time, quickly extinguished the flames which had caught my hair and clothing, spoke a few calm, reassuring words to me, and asked me if I should like to have him read to me from the Christian Science Sentinel. I was grateful for this offer, as I was suffering intensely. As soon as he began to read I lost all consciousness of pain and had no sense of shock. A practitioner was called on the telephone, and, although it was deemed wise to be medically examined and bandaged, I felt no pain.
It was remarkable that, although our telephone had been out of order all day, connection was obtained the minute it became necessary for us to get in touch with a practitioner! I could not see for two or three days, but the help I received was so efficacious that I was back at my office duties within ten days without a scar on my face or hands. This healing convinced me of the truth of Christian Science, and I am intensely grateful for this demonstration.
Since then many blessings have given me cause for gratitude, among them one in connection with my present employment. The position was one of heavy responsibilities which I felt I could not face. However, with the knowledge that Christian Science gives us of true selfhood, that of ourselves we can do nothing, and that God directs all our ways, I have gained such dominion over these responsibilities that constantly I receive congratulations upon the execution of my work from my colleagues in business.
