In the early '80's an aunt of mine wrote to a Christian Science practitioner in a distant city, stating that she had been operated upon twice for a cancerous growth, that it had returned in a worse and more painful form, and that she had become, because of her suffering, a sad victim of the drug habit. Through absent treatment this aunt received immediate relief and was completely healed within several weeks.
The healing made a strong impression upon my father and mother, but they were active members of an orthodox church and continued in that faith until, more than twenty-five years later, my mother was pronounced by three physicians—two of whom were specialists—to be hopelessly afflicted with tuberculosis. According to this medical diagnosis, one lung was consumed and the other was largely affected. The memory of my aunt's beautiful healing caused my mother to turn to God in her extremity.
My father went to the nearest large city to find a Christian Science practitioner. This was on a Saturday and he had expected to attend a Christian Science church the next day to learn of some practitioner and to seek his or her assistance. When he arrived, however, I told him of a practitioner of whose healing work I had heard and he went immediately to see him. My mother was practically healed within the hour after my father met this practitioner, though she was not expecting treatment until at least the following day. She called my sister to her bedroom and said that she felt like a new woman. She could not understand the change. She dressed and went downstairs, wonderfully happy. She regained her full strength rapidly, and six weeks from that time weighed eight pounds more than she had ever weighed before her illness.
