ABUNDANT LIVING

From the December 1935 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Among the beautiful and instructive parables that Christ Jesus used to elucidate the spiritual truths which he taught is the story of the good shepherd. He pointed out that the shepherd enters by the door of the sheepfold, while the thief and robber gets inside in some other way. In the morning the shepherd leads forth the sheep, which follow him gladly, but they will not follow a stranger. In setting forth the signification of this parable, he referred to himself as the good shepherd and said, "I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly."

As this promise has direct application to every individual Christian Scientist, it is pertinent for each one to make inquiry with himself, Am I demonstrating this more abundant life? The real Christian Scientist will promptly and gratefully answer that he has indeed been abundantly blessed by applying the truths of Christian Science to his daily living. Not only have all needful things been fully supplied, but the universe of Mind has become more distinctly revealed to his awakened sense.

We should never accept the suggestion that it is too late to demonstrate this more abundant life. Christian Science repudiates the limitation of time and age, waning forces of physical nature and inevitable decay. Such suggestions are erroneous and should not be allowed to gain entrance into thought. If we are obedient to Mrs. Eddy's teaching, we shall not be mesmerized to believe in loss of energy, allotted years, or of life less abundant than it actually is.
