THE SAVIOUR

From the December 1935 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Mary, when you cherished him
Deep within your heart,
Did you dream adown the years,
Misty visioning through tears,
Of the Saviour's part?

Was he just a babe to you,
Cherished safe and sure?
Could it be that then to thought
Came the anguished hours fraught
With his mission pure?

Mary, as he grew apace,
And you watched him grow,
Could you vision by his ways
Or his glorious God-filled days
What he sought to know?

We today are cherishing
Deep within our hearts
What his wisdom sought to give.
Showing us the way to live
Free from error's darts.

Mary, even though it seemed
Agony to you,
From the shadow of the cross,
From the seeming sense of loss,
Came the crown to view.

Nation after nation sees,
As it seeks the light,
How the Master, man of men,
Opened wide the gates of heaven,
Following the right.

Wars shall cease, the tumult stop.
God"s own son shall reign!
Mary, cherished in your heart,
Did you see the Saviour's part
And the world's great gain?
