With deep gratitude I express my appreciation and love of Christian Science. Having been brought up in the orthodox Jewish manner, I had little acquaintance with that Book of books, the Bible. But a sincere longing to know more of Him, coupled with the failure to reconcile a God of love with a God of vengeance, resulted in my becoming unhappy and dissatisfied with my religious status. Other inconsistencies and emphasis upon traditional worship, to which I could not intelligently respond, added further to my dilemma. Thus, in due time I gradually ceased attending the synagogue and became practically an agnostic.
Christian Science was presented to me during this time, but I scoffed at and ridiculed it. About six years ago, however, a mental healing was required, and in "man's extremity" I sought a Christian Science Reading Room. Since then I can positively attest the efficacy of Christian Science and the harvest resulting from its study. I have had healings of severe colds, grippe, stoppage of the bowels, the smoking habit, unlovely traits of character, fears and nervousness; and glasses which were indispensable for eyestrain and astigmatism were discarded with subsequent improvement in vision, in spite of increased study and reading.
Our little daughter has been wonderfully healed—sometimes instantaneously—of influenza, constipation, styes, and rashes. The last-named was particularly alarming to mortal sense, but was dispelled by steadfast affirmation of the truth and denial of the error. Whereas formerly I would entertain great fear and summon a physician on the slightest pretext, I have learned to be calm and recognize only one power—God, good.
