TEACH ME

From the December 1936 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Teach me the meaning of life, dear Lord;
Teach me to do my part.
Show me the reason for work, dear Lord;
Give me a loving heart.
I want to be faithful to You, dear Lord;
Open my eyes to see
That though the way is rough and steep,
Man is upright, pure, and free.
Give me the joy You have promised me,
That the tears that slowly fall
Shall only serve to cleanse my soul,
And fit me to hear Your call.

Then teach me to love my fellow men,
That I may lift them up,
And feed to them the bread of Life,
Give them the crystal cup.
Give me a lowly heart, dear Lord,
So that whate'er betide,
I'll bear my cross with joy and song.
Let me be purified!
