I should like to express sincere...

From the August 1936 issue of The Christian Science Journal

I should like to express sincere thanksgiving for the many blessings I have received through Christian Science, and for those which all its students are receiving daily.

My first healing came from reading the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures." After a few days of reading a borrowed copy I was sufficiently recovered from a serious nervous breakdown of four months' duration to resume my household duties. A few months later I was healed of the need of glasses, which I had worn for nine years, and which a specialist had said I could never do without. This was brought about by radical reliance on the truth that my sight is spiritual, not material. After a few days, when I could still read only the Bible and our Leader's writings without everything seeming to blur, I became doubtful and afraid. However, realizing that God would not have me depend on glasses, I went on with renewed courage. In about another week the healing was complete. That was seven years ago, and I have had no difficulty in that respect since.

Four years ago I experienced a very harmonious childbirth, the time being so short that the baby was born before the doctor arrived. During the period of nursing him I had two very severe attacks of milk fever, or what is often called caked breast. In contrast to many days of intense suffering, surgery, and incapacity stretching into weeks, which several of my friends had experienced, I was freed from this condition in about twenty-four hours through the help of a practitioner. A sense of weakness persisted for a few days, but the pain and fever vanished, even while the hard lump remained—showing that matter had no power, regardless of the evidence it presented.
