The joy and gratitude felt by one student of Christian Science during class instruction, as a truer meaning of the Christ was unfolded, will always remain a cherished memory. Often it had seemed difficult to understand the magnitude of the Master's work and to separate all sense of Jesus as a personal Saviour from the Christ which he demonstrated, but as the truth dawned on his thought the student felt a sense of security and unity with God never before experienced.
Jesus' remarkable success in overcoming the many phases of the carnal mind showed that he had indeed access to the power of God. His constant purpose was to break false laws, to alleviate suffering, and to point the way to spiritual development. Surely this could be nothing less than the love of God made manifest. Jesus clearly declared that he of himself could do nothing; that God did the works; and also, that those who understood his teachings could do the works he did. It is apparent then that Jesus did not regard as personal to himself his healing ability, but showed plainly that the power behind his works was spiritual, requiring to be understood. "Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free."
Mary Baker Eddy's discovery, Christian Science, makes plain the nature of the Christ. The world had earnestly awaited such a revelation, hardly daring to believe that so much good as was demonstrated by Jesus could be experienced by us today. But this pessimism is yielding to the gradual recognition of the great value of Christian Science, which dispels the mystery of the Scriptures through its spiritual and scientific interpretations of them.
