ANNULLING THE "LAW OF SIN AND DEATH"

From the June 1938 issue of The Christian Science Journal

In the earlier stages of their growth in understanding, students of Christian Science sometimes make too much of the uncovering and denial of evil. On the other hand, they may have a tendency to disregard evil—close their eyes to it, so to speak—and believe they are falling from their standard of spiritual thinking if they admit there is a claim of error. Mrs. Eddy has very clearly presented in her writings the procedure for destroying evil, which includes neither of these extremes.

Christian Science reveals the allness of God, Spirit, good. God's allness constitutes a divine law of annulment to all that is unlike Him. Mortals, however, are seemingly subject to the supposititious laws of mortal mind, manifested in animal magnetism, mortality, materiality, sin, disease, disaster—all human woes—and death. Students of the Bible know that Christ Jesus very definitely annulled these laws, healed the sick and sinning, raised the dead, stilled tempests, walked on the water, passed through closed doors, fed the multitude. And the Apostle Paul said, "There is ... now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death." And their teachings and example were left for our utilization and emulation.

It was not, however, until Christian Science revealed the true nature of the law of Spirit, by which Jesus and these disciples annulled the so-called "law of sin and death" that men found that they, too, in this day, can avail themselves of spiritual law and be freed from mortal mind's supposed laws and their effects.
