When a trip abroad is being planned, those who express order make the necessary arrangements with care, so that the happy completion of the trip will be assured. Among certain details may be the obtaining of a passport for the journey. According to a dictionary, a passport is an official document affording permission and protection to a person traveling abroad. Figuratively, it is "anything which secures admission or acceptance," as, a passport to success.
In considering these definitions, a student of Christian Science was reminded of Mrs. Eddy's use of the word "passport" on page 270 of "Miscellaneous Writings," where she tells us that "to seek or employ other means than those the Master used in demonstrating Life scientifically, is to lose the priceless knowledge of his Principle and practice." She adds, "Fidelity to his precepts and practice is the only passport to his power; and the pathway of goodness and greatness runs through the modes and methods of God." Clearly these inspired words indicate that it is possible for all mankind to possess, in some degree, the God-given power which the Master expressed.
Her "fidelity to his precepts and practice" enabled Mrs. Eddy to heal many cases of so-called incurable disease, and to free great numbers of people from sinful beliefs. As the desire of loyal Christian Scientists is to do likewise, they heed the counsel of Mrs. Eddy and strive to follow faithfully the teachings of the Wayshower, Christ Jesus. Fidelity includes the desire and courage to press on, in spite of seeming difficulties. When trials present themselves, we must be alert, and work faithfully to overcome them. We cannot overlook them. Error must not be condoned or ignored, but seen for just what it is—a lie. And knowing the truth destroys the lie.
