Gratefully and reverently I desire publicly to express my heartfelt gratitude to my Father-Mother God, and to the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, Mary Baker Eddy, for all that Christian Science has done and is doing for me.
When I first became interested in Christian Science, I had been a patient for four weeks in a hospital, where I was under observation and treatment preparatory to undergoing an operation. I had been treated by physicians, specialists, and surgeons, and, everything having failed, the operation was decided upon as a last resort. Because the hospital was to be closed in the summer for renovation, the operation was to take place in the fall; and it was at this time that Christian Science was presented to me. I was so greatly in need of physical healing that my thought never left my body.
Although I studied the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, faithfully, I failed to understand its teaching. After I left a practitioner's office one day, and was thinking very earnestly of what she had been telling me, especially that man, who was made in the image and likeness of God, is spiritual and perfect now, the light came, and with it a firm conviction of the truth of that statement. The bodily condition seemed about the same, but now my entire thought was not centered on the body, but on an earnest endeavor to understand spiritual Truth; and healing quickly followed. I have been healed of constant backache— caused by a misplaced organ pressing on the spine, of bone felon, blood poisoning, and broken bones; and of grief that nothing but the power of God could have healed.
