"For the love of God is broader
Than is seen by human mind,
And the heart of the Eternal
Is most wonderfully kind."
The great need of the world today is that men should realize their oneness with God, our all-beneficent Father. St. John, the beloved disciple who had been constantly with Jesus throughout his earthly ministry, endeavored to make clear to the early Christians this glorious heritage of love, which awaited their acceptance. In his first epistle he confidently asserts: "And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him. . . . There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear."
After many centuries there has come a restatement of the message of God's loving-kindness and of the unity which exists between God and man, bringing freedom to the fearful and the heavy-laden. Mary Baker Eddy, through her discovery of the Science of being, has made clear to men how to work in obedience to divine law, according to the example of Christ Jesus, the Way-shower, the messenger of "peace, good will toward men." Freely and lovingly she has shared her revelation of Christian Science with all mankind. In her textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," is a chapter entitled "Christian Science Practice," in which we find this statement (p. 410): "Christian scientific practice begins with Christ's keynote of harmony, 'Be not afraid!'
