I wish to express my deep gratitude for all that Christian Science has done for me. It has taught me that God is divine Principle, Mind, which governs, directs, and protects.
Seven years ago, when I was given up by doctors, Christian Science was presented to me. I had been sent home from a sanatorium to spend the few remaining days of my life with my family. An operation for sinus trouble was performed, and bone removed to give me more breathing space. Then I was suspected of having tuberculosis. Six tuberculin injections were given me. It was at this time that an aunt wrote to me about Christian Science. One of the outstanding thoughts given me at this time was one taken from the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health (p. 393), where Mrs. Eddy says: "Have no fear that matter can ache, swell, and be inflamed as the result of a law of any kind, when it is self-evident that matter can have no pain nor inflammation. Your body would suffer no more from tension or wounds than the trunk of a tree which you gash or the electric wire which you stretch, were it not for mortal mind."
I was forced to have several medical tests. Curvature of the spine was diagnosed, and I was told that this would mean the wearing of a special brace, if I lived to be more than twenty-five years old. Every year I experienced colds and sore throats, also neuritis. I had no sense of smell. I suffered from a serious irritation of the scalp, and a disease of the face which was considered incurable. Work was taken up for me by a Christian Science practitioner, and my dear aunt constantly declared the truth so that, one by one, all these ailments were completely and permanently healed.
